About Us: Lathan Development

We’re Lathan Development, an Alabama-based historic property developer. We specialize in preserving and adaptively reusing historic buildings, turning them into beautiful, yet functional, spaces that fit modern needs.

Since 2019, Lathan Development has served clients and communities across Alabama. We bring specialized experience to every redevelopment project, working closely with municipal, state, and federal entities to ensure our work meets the highest standards.

Our team of industry professionals has a combined 58+ years of expertise in historic rehabilitation, construction, property development, and preservation consulting. We work with architects, consultants, and local communities to maintain the character-defining features of each building while adapting the property to meet modern needs.

We see the untapped potential in Alabama’s historic buildings, particularly those in small or rural communities. Our portfolio features a range of projects from former industrial sites to old school buildings, many of which were significantly deteriorated from years of vacancy. Through careful rehabilitation, we return these properties to productive use.

We start with an assessment of each building’s historical significance and condition. We develop a plan for restoration and adaptive reuse, collaborating with local leaders and stakeholders to determine community needs. We leverage state and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits to ensure financial viability and historical sensitivity. Finally, we oversee the rehabilitation project from start to finish until the property is ready for service.

Our projects help save neglected architectural treasures, stimulate local economies, and supply new residential and commercial spaces for communities. We have invested over $40 million in redevelopment projects since 2019, transforming underutilized buildings into assets that deliver returns for communities and investors.
